Apply to audition for:

Ben Hur

By Patrick Barlow | Directed By Tanya Laing Gahr

Based on one of the timeless stories of one of the best-selling books of the nineteenth century, this hilarious and unpredictable staging of Ben Hur follows an amateur theatre troupe of four actors as they produce the massive tale of the fictional Jewish prince and merchant Judah Ben Hur. Ben Hur falls to galley slave and rises to champion charioteer within Jerusalem during the life of Jesus Christ, while the actors struggle along through the play as rivalries form and offstage romances interfere. Complete with chariot race, sea battle and stage combat, playwright Patric Barlow (39 Steps) weaves his compressed style into one of the largest stories ever told.

PLEASE NOTE: Ben Hur is the Powerhouse Theatre’s entry for Theatre BC’s Ozone Festival in Kelowna, held in late May; the winning production at Ozone moves onto the Mainstage Festival, held in Port Alberni in July. Cast and crew must be available for the entire run, including festival performances.
